Bulldagger |
Hey ya'll, I've been absent for a bit, I know. But, thankfully, life keeps on happening to me. Whether it be good, bad or ugly - right, wrong or indifferent, as Mama used to say, "Every day above ground is a good day." So, through it all - personal challenges, setbacks, betrayals and unscrupulous folks trying to take ownership of my work and creations - I remain thankful and faithful. For I know that, "All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).
With that said, if you know anything about me and by now, you should know a lot, then you must surely know that I was not somewhere twiddling my thumbs waiting for something to happen. When it looked as if I was about to start doing that, a good friend yelled at me and said, "Dorinda, every day, every minute of the day, we are dying. Life is not gonna come looking for you, you have to go get it." Now, admittedly, I didn't feel like she was such a good friend at the time, but she is. She's one of those friends that will not hesitate to kick me in my @$$ from time to time when the need arises. So, with her charge, I'd like to introduce you to "Desigha" (De-SI-ya) - a skinny, little, ugly, nappy-headed, black bulldagger from Lubbock, Texas. I hear some of you whispering to yourself, "What is a bulldagger?" Well I'm glad you asked, Bulldagger is a colloquialism derived from the root, Bull Dyke; "It is an offensive and disparaging term for a lesbian, especially one exhibiting behavior associated with stereotypically masculine traits." Please understand, however, one did not, and does do not have to exhibit "masculine traits" to be called a bulldagger. The term was/is used in reference to any girl/woman who like kissing other girls/womens in the mouth. ;)
For
more than six years, I have been trying to tell Desigha's story. Throughout the process, it has taken on many different forms, shapes and sizes. It has gone from fiction to non-fiction,
autobiographical to semi-autobiographical.
It has been written in first person, second person and third. The motivation, has always remained
constant – to tell the story.
Bulldagger telescopes Desigha's life from pre-adolescence to adulthood. The story is told in both narrative and diary form. This book gives the reader an opportunity to sit on the edge of the bed and listen in as she writes down her private and most intimate thoughts. The reader is given a window view into those innermost crevices of Desigha's life of solitude and isolation, unwantedness, abandonment and rejection. You will travel alongside her, walking with her, talking with her, caring for her, and hopefully rooting for her, as she wade through the muddy and murky waters of self-exploration and awareness that lead to maturity, self-acceptance, and real freedom.
Because of where Desigha ends up, Bulldagger is structurally written in five biblically inspired parts that put sexuality and Christianity in an eye to eye, one on one conversation: PART I; GENESIS is adolescence and all that comes with it. PART II; EXODUS is Desigha's awkward awareness of the self, of freedom - and the realization that they never seem to go hand in hand. PART III; NEW TESTAMENT is the journeying back to where it all began. PART IV; THE WILDERNESS is about life's hard learned lessons and PART V; REVELATIONS; Desigha finds her authentic self, her own voice and speaks.
Bulldagger is now available on Amazon.com for the Kindle, your PC, iPad, iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices. Or, you can just click on the multiple links that I've made just for you. ;) And, thank you in advance for your support. Peace!
